INFORMATION ON CHARITABLE SOLICITORS

Prior to 1996, the Secretary of State’s Office registered charitable solicitors in the state of Nebraska. Despite the repeal of this law due to a Nebraska Supreme Court decision, the Secretary of State’s Office still receives inquiries on charitable solicitors on a regular basis.

Because charities are no longer required to register with this office we do not have a current database of information, however, we have found Guidestar http://www.guidestar.org to be an excellent source of basic information. They get much of their information directly from the Internal Revenue Service and list over 850,000 charitable organizations in a searchable database.
